MY INNER MONSTER
Meet your inner monster sculpted with your hands out of clay. Sculptor and archaeologist Jennifer Joyce will help us to disappear into her quiet and nurturing studio environment where we will learn how to use sculpting and texture tools and techniques to give form to our very own monster. We will make them colorful with ceramic paints and then we will tell their stories.
JENNIFER JOYCE
Jennifer Joyce‘s work brings together her unique artistic background in dance, archeology and photography, with inspiration taken from nature and the human figure. She has been making functional and sculptural ceramics for over 17 years and has been teaching out of her Santa Monica studio since 1995.
DR. BRAIN
“Dr. Brain” lives in a castle made of brains. He is from Pupola Brain where all the brains live. He has little minions that look like eyeballs. They are plugged into Dr. Brain’s tentacles to charge up with information. All the eyeball minions get assigned to kids starting from Kindergarden to College and do their homework every single night. They unplug at different times of the day (because of time difference) and flap their wings to kids in different states, countries, cities, planets… They are very very smart. To become a minion they have to finish 10 years of homework training!
COOKIE AND MILK MONSTER
“Cookie and Milk Monster” is from a Box and a Cow. Cookie is chocolate, Milk is liquid. Their favorite word is fun. Cookie’s best friend is Milk, Milk’s best friend is Cookie. Because of popular demand they took their houses and ran away. Now everyday a different person tries to catch them…
SPOOKY EYE
“Spooky Eye” is from Googly Eye Planet. His favorite food is spagetti. He sleeps on a large eyelash, he is very spooooky! He can turn his eyes all around. He is a square with 3 eyes and 4 hands because he is an alien…
STILL LIFE "NO NAME"
Still Life “No Name” is from a volcano from China. He loves to eat people and he neveeeeer sleeps! He is a hybrid and a cross breed with a snake and a bird.
SKARERES
Skareres” is from a Cave. He has a lot of monster friends. His favorite word is scare. He loves to eat meat. He sleeps in a bed of bones. With his two strong legs, two dark eyes and no hands, his special talent is scaring… And he looks the way he looks because I chose it!
PRIEATER
“Prieater” is from Planet Cave. Her favorite food is people, especially princesses. She used to be a pretty princess but someone put a spell on her. Now she has 4 hands, a mouth on top of her head, a large butt to sit on when she rests. The spell was so upsetting for Prieater that she made it her life’s goal to steal princesses, store them, eat them and sleep in her cave…
SYRINEA
“Syrinea” is from Africa. He sleeps under the stars. His friends are animals in the Bushveld (a sub-tropical woodland of Southern Africa). He will live for centuries. He has branches with eyes no leaves. Because of the hot, dry climate he developed eyes to look for water.
LOCOS
“Locos” is from Pompom. His favorite food is meat, favorite word is dead… His best friends are Matt and the Snake (who never leaves his sight). Locos has 2 arms, 4 wings, 1 tail, 3 eyes on top of eachother, 1 large tail, 1 huge brain. He can jump 199 feet in the air!
